Sean had set his sights on Singapore Polytechnic (SP) way back in secondary three. So determined was he in joining SP that he applied under the Direct Polytechnic Admission scheme, in order to secure a place in his preferred polytechnic before others. This also gave him peace of mind as he could concentrate on sailing. He chose the Diploma in Business Information Technology because he knew from young that he wanted to be a businessman in future and a strong footing in business IT skills would enhance his competitive edge.
Despite having to juggle his final year studies with sailing, Sean still found time to get involved with the Youth Olympic Games (YOG). He was named by the Singapore National Olympics Committee as the Young Ambassador for Singapore the first YOG held last year. He was also the final torch bearer for the Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame (Southwest District) where he lit the cauldron with the Guest-of-Honour Mr Lim Boon Heng, then the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office. A master in time management, Sean also managed to carve out time to obtain a Certificate in Applied Psychology course under the Diploma-Plus programme.
2011 marks a year of achievements for Sean, who is a recipient of the SP Sports Scholarship. Besides clinching the Model Student Award, he is also the reigning Sportsman of the Year. The latter is an award he was keenly after because as a sportsman in SP, this is the highest glory. Now, graduating as one of the top students certifies him as the perfect brawn and brains guy.
On a personal level, Sean considers winning the IODA Optimist World Championship in Uruguay back in 2006 as his most memorable experience in life. He is only 19 and believes he could go further in sailing. In fact, Sean has started training in Sydney for the 2012 Olympics selection. His biggest desire now is to make it to the London Olympics next year.
